Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
